The department pursues excellence in research in mathematics in the different fields in which the members are in. The development of research leads to publication of papers in journals, organization of conferences in our department and contribution to ones held outside.

The mebers of the department organize cycles of seminars as the Lezioni Leonardesche, geared toward the mathematical community around Milan, the Lezioni Enriques, which deal with the history and the philosophy of mathematics, the Seminario Matematico e Fisico, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano  and the Università di Milano Bicocca, and many other for a more specialized auddience.

An important role within the following research centres is due to the department:

ECMI (European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry)

ADAMSS (ADvanced Applied Mathematical and Statistical Sciences)

CIMAB (Interuniversity Center for Applied Mathematics for Biology, Medicine and Environmental)

 

Editors of interntional journals are members of the department: the Milan Journal of Mathematics and the Journal of Mathematics in Industry.
